Your testimony is interesting. Thanks for sharing it. Just a comment:

Well, that makes your wiki an indie wiki as well. Isn't that fantastic? The idea of independent wikis is they are driven by passionate editors, not by corporate companies like Fandom. While Fandom allows some editorial freedom, at the end your community may be forced by the interests of advertisers, by closing the wiki because advertisers flag its contents as not appropriate, forcing "AI slop" summaries or questions to trick SEO with factual errors or misinformation and forcing users to moderate this mess, or removing the ability to customize templates and colors on the mobile interface. Those are some real examples, but there are more, and probably there will be more forms of interference in the future. There are still valuable communities on Fandom, but the ones that left are (in general, with some exceptions) far better organized and with full control of their content and management. You may disagree with the management of the wiki, of course, but that's up to you to come to an agreement with them, or create an alternate fork. But there's no agreement possible with Fandom, since they'll change their terms and conditions as they please, and squash the community if they want (wikis have been closed, merged or replaced without their communities consent in the past). --Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 16:17, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
- First of all, I appreciate the civility, since I was kind of brash. I'm fully aware of the risks of using Fandom, and I'm very careful on how I edit the wikis. If the communities need some form of compensation (the ones that I'm in), I'd willing to help with that as well.
- I'm actually staff of several wikis there. Fandom will exist no matter what, so might as well just make a chill hangout spot and add content to feed algorithm and capitalism. I just find it fun. Literal thousands of articles were improved and created on the Mario Wiki on Fandom in 2023: that was an amazing year. Gstar (talk) 17:11, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
